Kyung-ki transmission line begins commercial operations

After 15 years of construction Kepco's 765kV transmission line in Kyung-ki province finally began its commercial operation. The 80km transmission line with 154 pylons connects seven cities in Kyung-ki province including Yong-in and Kwang-ju.

The commercial operation of the power line integrates the previously existing lines into a 765kV power grid that can provide efficient and reliable power supply to metropolitan areas.

It has been designed and built with an environmentally friendly approach in order to prevent forest damage at the construction site. Moreover, the operation of the transmission line signifies the success of a complete localisation of 765kV technology and equipment provision in Korea throughout the entire process from designing to construction.

During its earlier stage, there have been many barriers to overcome such as civil petitions, administrative litigations, and refusal of building permits in the area. A continuous parade of protest meetings was held by the nearby area residents against the erection of transmission towers while National Commission investigated Kepco under a suspicion of preferential treatment regarding a change in the transmission route. After its persistent efforts into building harmony with local residents, Kepco could, in the end, resume its construction of the transmission lines.

Despite many difficulties, Kepco has managed to achieve the completion of its transmission lines with great ardor and determination to contribute to ensuring reliable power supply and economic development of Korea.

With the successful commercial operation of the 765kV transmission line, and based on its advanced technology, Kepco is expected to be able to expand its market for power transmission projects of over 700kV capacity, which is showing an increasing demand overseas.
