REGULATION | Nathpa Jhakri achieves all-time high generation

The 1500MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Station achieved an all-time high generation of over 6300 million units, up to 16 February 2009. This was announced by Shri H.K. Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of public sector hydroelectric power company Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN), during the presentation of an interim dividend check of Rs. 82.5 to the government of India through Union Minister of Power, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, in Delhi on 17 February 2009.

The government of India holds a 75 percent equity on SJVN, the operator of the Nathpa Jhakri Power Station. The government of Himachal Pradesh holds the remaining 25 percent equity.

Sharma also informed the Honorable Minister that the generation achieved against last year's 6056 million units (as on date) was the end result of efficient silt management and machine management measures adopted by SJVN. The generation achieved during this period, he revealed, was 250 million units more than the targets given by the Ministry of Power.
