Evergreen Energy Inc. advances its coal refinery project
PROJECT | Evergreen Energy Inc. advances its coal refinery project
Evergreen Energy Inc. is advancing its joint K-Fuel coal refinery project with its Indonesian mining associate and Sumitomo Corporation. The coal refinery project located on Kalimantan Island in Indonesia is slated for the next round of detailed analysis needed before the companies reach a decision to develop a comprehensive plant design.
The three firms have examined engineering specifications, economic factors, market conditions and coal testing results during the previous year and have identified additional key areas that need further investigation. The next round of development work will be handled by the existing partner companies, while some Japanese utility firms have expressed interest in the project.
The K-Fuel process is set to upgrade sub-bituminous and lignite coals to performance levels approaching bituminous coal before they are shipped to Asian markets. In a test done in 2007, the K-Fuel refined coal had 64 percent less moisture, 56 percent less mercury and a 52 percent increase in heating value compared to the raw coal drawn from the mines.
Evergreen Energy Inc. owns the K-Fuel process that refines coal into a cleaner, more efficient and affordable solid fuel to meet the growing energy demands of industrial and utility customers. Sumitomo Corporation is an integrated business, trading and investment firm involved in energy, construction, utilities, metals and mining.
