Wärtsilä among world's most sustainable corporations

ENVIRONMENT | Wärtsilä among world's most sustainable corporations

Wärtsilä is, for the first time, included in the list of the 100 most sustainable companies in the world. The companies included in the Global 100 were considered to have managed their environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities best among their industry peers. The list was published at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on January 28, 2009.

"This recognition is a clear testimonial to Wärtsilä's long-term commitment to sustainable development, and it indicates that we are on the right track in developing our sustainability performance. This gives us an excellent platform on which to base the further improvement of our products, solutions, and our operations in general," says Marko Vainikka, General Manager, Sustainability, Wärtsilä Corp.

As for Wärtsilä’s presence in Asia, the company has launched its new service centre and office in Eomgung, Busan. By opening these premises, Wärtsilä will be able to centralise its business units in Korea, as Services, Ship Power, Power Plants and Industrial Operations, together with finance and administration, will eventually relocate to the new office that is set to be fully operational in July 2009.
