CLP Group to install two power plant units in Haryana

PROJECT | CLP Group to install two power plant units in Haryana

CLP Power India Private Limited (CLP India), a wholly owned subsidiary of CLP Group, has committed approximately US$1.2 billion for the construction of two 660MW power plant units in Jhajjar district in the State of Haryana, India. The power plant units will be installed over an area of at least 1,200 acres and are set to commit 90 percent of their combined electricity output to Haryana State.

The power stations will utilise the technology that requires the use of less coal in generating electricity. Flue Gas Desulphurisation equipment will also be deployed to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions. The two power plant units are scheduled to be fully operational in December 2011 and May 2012 respectively.

"This project underpins CLP Group's commitment to contribute to improving quality of life in India in a sustainable way," said Andrew Brandler, CEO of CLP Group. "The power sector in India has massive potential and we appreciate Haryana government's initiative by offering us a gateway to this state and providing the project with the necessary infrastructure to commence operations here. It is our privilege to have the chance to light up the lives of millions in Haryana," he added.

Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Haryana, said, "The Government of Haryana is taking steps to improve the power supply position in the State, including augmentation of generating capacity and development of a number of mega power projects in the public and the private sector. The Jhajjar power plant is a step in this direction. I am hopeful that CLP will utilise its expertise to generate 1,320MW power in the state of Haryana that will benefit millions of households. With the setting up of a plant by the CLP Group, we have achieved yet another milestone for the state. This project will be a significant contribution on the part of CLP to our state's development."

CLP Group is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and locally operates an electricity supply business through CLP Power Hong Kong. As a conglomerate, CLP owns generation, transmission and distribution assets and retail businesses in different countries in the Asia Pacific Region. Its subsidiary CLP India operates a 655MW IPP in Gujarat and has approximately 350MW of committed wind projects in India.
