Kaifeng extension project passes environmental test

ENVIRONMENT | Kaifeng extension project passes environmental test

The 2x600MW Extension Project of Kaifeng Thermal Power Plant passed the completion acceptance test of the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Kaifeng Jingyuan Power Generation Co., Ltd. considers the approval a new stage in its efforts on energy conservation and environmental protection, laying a solid foundation for its future development.

Based on prudent discussions of the environmental experts, the acceptance test group believed that the project has well complied with relevant laws, rules and regulations as well as government approvals of the environmental impact assessment report. It has met the national acceptance conditions and passed the acceptance test.

The project was commenced in September 2007 with a total investment of US$614.7 million, of which US$52.69 million was for environmental protection, accounting for 8.7 percent of the total. The two units started test running in December 2008 and February 2009, respectively. When put into operation, they produce about 1.13 million tons of slag a year and 56,000 tons of gypsum resulting from FGD.
