POWER UTILITY | TEPCO braces for 61 million kW summer demand

The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TEPCO) expects its peak demand of summer 2009 to be about 61.00 million kW per month, in both July and August, with the assumption of normal summer temperatures.

On the other hand, as for electricity supply, TEPCO will make efforts to secure additional supply by output increase operation, utilisation of electricity during start-up testing, purchasing extra electricity from in-house power generators, etc.

The company is eyeing to secure 67.00 million kW excluding the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.1 - Unit No.6 hit by the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake.

Supply capacity is expected to be highest in July with 67.30 million kW and a supply reserve with 6.30 million kW.
